Fire Safety Works – Various Schools

As part of the yearly Condition Improvement Fund from the government as awarded to academies each spring, we was successful in winning the fire safety works to the following schools :

  • Village Academy Trust
    • Lynstead and Norton Primary School
    • Milstead and Frinstead Primary School
    • Dymchurch Primary School
  • Whinless Down Academy Trust
    • Vale View Primary School, Dover.

The works were similar throughout all the schools but mainly involved the removal of ACMs to the respective work areas, supply and installation of new fire rated doorsets throughout each school, installed by BM Trada Q Mark carpenters. New suspended ceilings, decorating, formation of external ramps for fire escapes, new aluminium doorsets to fire exits, new fire alarm and emergency lighting systems to each school and fire proofing to existing partitions and penetrations.

Works to all four schools were completed on time within the 6 week school holidays, with additional works completed in the following October half term.

Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey

We was approached by the trust in July to undergo some urgent remodelling works to one of their academies on the Isle of Sheppey to increase the capacity of the school. The works mainly involved the formation of new classrooms to various locations throughout the school. This included the construction of impact resistant, reinforced partitions, new doorsets, flooring, decorations to the new classrooms and other parts of the school, internal alterations to form new staff and admin areas, as well as mechanical and electrical works to all new areas.

These works were completed within a tight programme during the summer holidays, with works completing on time for the new school year.

This project was the refurbishment and new build of an existing vacant building into new Busy Bees Nursery for the area.
The works themselves consisted of the complete internal strip out and demolition of parts of the existing structure.Formation of new extensions, including new trusses and roof coverings, block and beam flooring, screeding,cavity wall construction, and complete with newuPVC windows & doors. Formation of new internalsolid and partitioned walls and associated joinery, new doors, staircase alterations, dumb waiter installation, electrical installations, plumbing and heating, as well as the installation of a new commercial kitchen. Finishes included newfloor coverings,ceilings,decorations and new sanitaryware, cubicles, and baby change units to all WCs.

External works included groundwork’s, drainage and landscaping, new paving, fencing, bin store and artificial grass to new play area. Various external elevation repairs including repointing; roof and chimney repairs and new rainwater goods, fascias and soffits.

The site was mainly surrounded by residential buildings and a main road so every consideration was taken to the local surroundings and community. Communication was key in us keeping neighbours informed of the works taking place daily and maintaining this was paramount to cause the least impact and disruption to all concerned locally.

The works were completed for the October half term opening and Theobald’s were awarded a GOOD rating following inspections from considerate constructor for this project.

TheFairtrough Farm project was a conversion of an existing barn building into three new independent family dwellings. The project also included external works plus conversion of out buildings into a new office for the attached farm .These works incorporated the conversion of the old kitchen and ablution facilities for the farm manager and staff into upgraded new modern facilities that included new kitchenette, Wc’s and Shower area.

The conversion to the barn building consisted of a complete strip out, wall removal including fireplace and structures. New floors, underpinning to parts of the existing foundation, new party and internal walls, screeding, partitions, new internal/external doors, complete electrical rewire, dormers, roof lights,plumbing and heating , kitchens, bathrooms, roof repairs, landscaping including external ground works, new paving to communal areas andformation of car park areas.

The project had many challenges given that the works took place on a working farm but all obstacles were overcome and even the occasional visit from the sheep to check on progress!

The works were completed on time and both the client and Theobalds alike were very pleased with the results of another successful project.

This project has involved the refurbishment works to all five floors of the Civic Centre offices, from the top floor to reception. The works included phasing of each wing to suit the building occupants to cause minimal disruption to day to day workings of the council staff. These works include the complete strip out of floors, including partitions, flooring electrical strip out and asbestos vinyl tiles removal. The reinstatement works included the installation of new partitions to suit the unique layouts for each floor, flooring, decorating, suspended ceilings, new lighting and power and window repairs.

We commenced work in October 2018 and the works completed September 2020. Recent works include the refurbishment of lift lobbies and stairwell areas.

Theobald’s have carried out a number of successful projects for the Oasis Community Learning and it’sacademies across the whole of the South East of England.

For this project we were asked to reconfigure toilets over a number of floors, form new offices and to carry out alterations to form a new sixth form area on the 4th floor.The works included initial demolition and strip out, works to cut and form new door openings, form new partitioned walls, toilet alterations, associated mechanical and electrical works, making good to various raised computer floor areas, installation of a new kitchenette and formation of a new offices as well as general redecoration along with new floor finishes.A new glazed screen partition was also installed within the sixth form area.

This project was a much needed and welcome additional areas for the academy.
